HARNEY, James Allan

September 16, 1969 –April 15, 2017

Jimmy Harney of North Bay Ontario passed away on Saturday April 15, 2017 with his family by his side.  His courageous battle with cancer has come to an end and he is now at peace.

Jimmy was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on September 16, 1969. It is here where he learned to love the outdoors. In 1983 Jim and his family move to North Bay, Ontario. It is here where he grew into the amazing musician he became.

He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his love Tracey, parents Jim and Helen Harney, his children, who were the light of his life, Josh and Lydia.  Sisters Cindy Sweig (Brian Close), Joanne Kok (Adrien Chan), Barbi Tomas, Kim D’Angelo (Tony), Laura Michaud (Troy).

Uncle Jimmy held a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews, teaching them to follow their dreams and to be themselves. He will be sadly missed by Lauren and Steven Sweig, Jamie and Ashley Kok, Alysia, Andrew and Addison Tomas, Kelsi, Eric and Jillian D’Angelo, Josie and Ben Michaud. He is also survived by many loving Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Jimmy has touched the hearts of many throughout his life. He was a gentle man who always thought of others first. His “family” consisted of many and will be missed by Shelley and family, Jana, Kate and Emily, Tracey’s family James and Chelsey, Liam and Emma, Rocky and Billy Dean. The “Shack” Family, and his close friends Bob, Waxxie, Peter, Mike and Dean, as well as brother in-laws Michael Sweig, Harvey Kok and Barry Tomas.

Jimmy was predeceased by grandparents Allan and Siri Untinen, Helen Whiteman and Acy Harney, Uncles Ron and Ken Untinen and cousin Rhonda Slongo-Neron.

We would like to extend our sincere thank you to the entire staff at the North Bay Regional Hospital. Words cannot express how grateful we are to all of you for providing such excellent care for “Our Jimmy”. Jimmy was in awe of how caring everyone was. Thank you to Dr. O’Grady and Paula Doncaster and the staff of 3B and 3C for your compassionate care and guidance.

Cremation has taken place and at the request of Jimmy there will be no service. Celebrate his life and cherish the memories and the music. Donations can be made to the North Bay Regional Hospital if desired.

From the words of our beloved Jimmy:

“I don’t mind you lending me a hand….you know this damned thing keeps on getting heavier…give it one HEAVE HO! And that will be all she wrote. Now we’re all keeping on and it’s better with you along. Cause it eases my mind when we spend our time..TOGETHER”

Heart felt sympathies to Jim's family. Our Stop Energy East group hosted a fund raiser in an ongoing effort to stop the trans Canada pipeline from being built through our water shed. Jim was front and centre. He was such a fine musician and a genuinely decent human being. He will be missed.

Heartfelt condolences for every one who will miss Jim's shining smile and warm heart, especially little Lydia, whom I was able to welcome at birth and shared the special honour of being her midwife. This was a very special bond between us all and I hope to make a contribution for a Trust Fund for Lydia, if this is made possible! Warm regards to all the family and extended family!

Tracey and family. My deepest sympathies on Jim's passing. A truly talented individual who shared his talent with whomever asked for it. A leader in the music industry in North Bay and surrounding area with many of us being better musicians because of Jim. When I found out that Jim had passed, I immediately thought of a sunrise several years ago when Jim was singing Michael Buble's song "HOME" just as the day was breaking during the cancer walk at the base. Well Jim, you are now home and without pain and looking down on all of us and being our musical angel. Please know Tracey and Jim's family that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this very trying time. RIP my friend!

Goodbye Dear Jim.
Condolences to all of your family and extended family. God has a new angel singing in His Heavenly Choir. Thanks for all of the wonderful musical memories.
How appropriate that your passing should happen at Easter, you who portrayed Jesus so well in Jesus Christ Superstar. I am certain that we will all hear your voice when we listen to the wind.

I will miss you Jimmy. The talks we had and the stories we shared. You were an amazing musician and I was thrilled that you saved a copy of your last CD for me. I play it often and will continue to so that I can hear great music and think of you. Rest in Peace my Friend. You were the love of Tracey's like and my thoughts and prayers are with her.

Our deepest sympathy, Cindy, Mrs. Harney, Laura and families. So difficult to find words to express the sadness of learning of Jimmy's death. From the time I met Jimmy at Chippewa and throughout the years, he never failed to brighten my day whenever we crossed paths. His smile was extremely infectious and lit up the room. Whether he was sharing his talent with the high school bands, Drama club or later on at the Capitol Centre with the Symphony Orchestra, right through to the children's group "Starburst Theatre", he made everyone around him feel like they were very important and valued. More lately, we would see each other at the school where Lydia and my son David share a classroom and no matter how busy his day probably was he would take time to speak with me. Jimmy was most certainly "The real deal" and he will most certainly be very sadly missed by so many people whose lives he touched. Please know our thoughts are with you. Micheline

Barbi

I'm very sorry for the loss of your brother. I noticed the obituary in the Thunder Bay Chronicle. Although I didn't know your brother, if he was anything like you he would have been an amazing person. Hugs

My heartfelt sympathies to the whole Harney clan for your loss. I had the chance to meet Jim not too long ago when Barbi and I travelled to Ottawa together. I immediately sensed his passion for music and how deeply he cared about his friends and family. A huge loss for all of you but, Jim sure left his mark! Take care

We were honored to have Jim play outside the chapel doors of our wedding. The memory of hearing his amazing voice as we walked those first steps, into our new life together, was a blessing, we will always cherish. Thank you Jim. Condolences to your family for their monumental loss.
