Alan McGowan, April 26 1944 - March 20 2024

It is with heavy hearts the family of Alan McGowan announces his passing after a brief battle with cancer.

Alan leaves behind his wife of 41 years Lorraine McGowan, his children Audrey Stoddart (Rick), Alan McGowan  (Nellie), Lynn Langille (Shane), and Christa Cauvier (Marc). 8 grandchildren: Sarah Hatheway (Dale), Courtney Langille, Ashley Stolte (Anthony), Morgan McGowan, Marina Cauvier (Michael), Katelyn Stolte, Cameron McGowan, Connor Cauvier (Danielle). 6 great grandchildren: Scarlett, Hannah, and Lacey Hatheway, Oliver Conrad, Ayden Jordan, Mabel Conrad.

Predeceased by his son Craig Hillier and grandson Tyler McRae.

Alan was born in Greenock, Scotland. At the age of 15, he joined the merchant navy and travelled the world at sea. In 1967, he started his family in Scotland, where he worked on the tugboats and began his bus-driving career before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1972. His family continued to grow and he resumed his career driving various transportations for the TTC and Gray Coach.

In 1983, he moved north to fulfill his passion to establish his own business in wine and beer making, (The Homebrew Centre, North Bay). As the years passed, he became a well-known and respected pioneer in the industry.

Alan had many hobbies including collecting antique model cars, paper money, and coins just to name a few. 

His great sense of humour and classic story telling abilities will always be fondly remembered by anyone that knew him or crossed his path.

The family would like to thank Doctors Hasspieler and Jinnah for their care and support along with the VON nurses.
