Brian Schubert Obituary

In Loving Memory of Brian Schubert October 6th 1952 - September 5th 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Norman Schubert. The world has lost a good and kind man whose spirit touched many lives.

Brian often said that one of the greatest tragedies of his ALS diagnosis was not being able to see his grandchildren grow up. Yet, his love and guidance will live on in their hearts forever.

A lifelong lover of nature, Brian found joy in the land, the birds, and all living things. On the five acres severed from his grandparents’ farm, he studied and cared for the land with deep respect for Indigenous ways of knowing. He will be dearly missed not only by his family and friends but also by the birds and neighbourhood furry companions who brought him daily joy.

Brian was an avid harvester, angler, and gardener who spent much of his retirement at the family hunt camp east of Marten River. At home, he enjoyed the simple life, tending to his property alongside his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Susan (Mantha) Schubert. Together, they shared many adventures, including cruises to Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, the East Coast of Canada, and numerous warm destinations.

Given his diagnosis just under a year ago, Brian’s family had the gift of a long goodbye. They cherished this time with him, honouring his strength, resilience, and unwavering love.

Brian’s career concluded as an Aggregates Resource Manager with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, where he dedicated himself to the stewardship of the province’s resources. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply involved with Omond United Church, where his faith and spirituality found expression in service and community.

He also leaves behind a cherished circle of childhood friends who, for over 60 years, remained by his side which was a testament to his loyalty and the warmth of his character.
Brian is survived by his loving father, Norman Schubert (98); his sister Lisa (Schubert) Allison and brother-in-law Kevin Allison; and niece Jennifer Allison (Andy Morrison). He was predeceased by his mother, Mary (Davidson) Schubert.

Brian’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife and lifelong partner Susan (Mantha) Schubert; daughter Dana (Schubert) Bond and son-in-law Jody Bond; son Ryan Schubert and daughter-in-law Anne-Renee (Gadoury) Schubert; as well as his beloved grandchildren: Kennedy Bond, Carter Rivet, Chloe Rivet, Harrison Bond, Julia Bond, Sophie Schubert, Isabelle Schubert, and William Schubert.

He will be remembered as a man of kindness, integrity, and faith whose presence brightened every gathering.

A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at Omond United Church on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.

Donations in Brian’s memory may be made to ALS Canada and the North Bay Regional Health Center Foundation.
