Edward Van Rengen

Edward Van Rengen passed peacefully March 19, 2024 at 87 years of age with his family at his side in his North Bay home of 52 years.  Ed was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ricarda “Ricky” (nee Wilmot). Loving father to Eddy (Lori-Anne) and Paul (Ana). Proud grandfather to Kurtis, Kayla-Anne (Colton), Faith (Matthew) and Filip. Survived by his brother Raymond in France and sister Ghislaine in Belgium and his Godchild Tanya DeGroot. He was also predeceased by his sisters Francine, Gilberte and Maria all in Belgium. Ed will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Ed was born in Belgium and emigrated to Canada in 1959 working as engineering draftsman followed by a 25 year career in education. He taught in Cornwall, Sturgeon Falls and finally Ecole Secondaire Algonquin. Ed was a teacher first and foremost and even in retirement continued to teach his grandchildren the finer points of repairs and handiness as well as music.

Ed was a talented musician and loved music, woodworking and a good repair challenge. He enjoyed biking and travelling the world with his family. Ed was known for striking up a conversation with anyone, making new friends wherever he went. 

Ed will be laid to rest by his family. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.
