Guertin, Esther Marie Thérèse

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of our loving mother Esther Marie Thérèse Guertin, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre in the Palliative Care unit on Thursday June 16, 2022.

At 94 years of age, mom was predeceased by her parents William and Josephine (Gauthier) Deschene, her husband John and her infant daughter Diane, her siblings Florence, Veronica, Horace, Daniel and Gerard. Esther is survived by her brother Gabriel (Gary) and her children Gilles (Linda), Ray, Norman (Carol), Pauline Costante (Ed).  She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jay, Andre, Patrick, Eric, Jeremie, Chad (Guertin)—Jennifer and Dustin (Demille), as well as thirteen great grandchildren.

Mom was a very proud family-oriented homemaker. Her boundless creativity was expressed through her sewing, knitting, baking and cooking. Esther will be remembered for her traditional Friday gatherings at her home where family and friends enjoyed her second-to-none spaghetti and meatballs. One would never miss attending these wonderful family reunions; in her own way, she kept the family united.

Esther spent many years volunteering at various churches and social clubs located in North Bay and East Ferris. After leaving her home on Lake Nosbonsing to enjoy condo living in North Bay, her love of keeping people connected, continued; she created a community.

Heartfelt thanks go out to mom’s niece, Geri Grant, who shared caregiver duties with Esther’s daughter Pauline. Geri went beyond the call of duty insofar as loving her Aunt Esther. We extend our appreciation to the Empire Living Centre and its staff for the quality assisted-living they have provided. We would also like to express our gratitude to Paramed Services staff as they saw to Mom’s comfort on a daily basis.

A sincere appreciation also goes out to Dr. Vigars who provided compassionate care over the years, particularly during mom’s latter months.  Finally, we would like to thank the North Bay Regional Health Centre staff—especially the emergency doctors and Palliative Care unit.

Visitation to be held at Hillside Funeral Home, 362 Airport road, North Bay, ON July 8, 2022 between 2-4 PM. Celebration of life service to be held at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers in Esther's memory, we ask that you consider donating to the Palliative Care Unit of the North Bay Regional Health Centre or to the Near North Palliative Care Network. The 13th annual live butterfly release is being held on Saturday July 9th 2022 at the waterfront.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de notre mère aimante, Esther Marie Thérèse Guertin, à l’Hôpital général de North Bay dans l’unité des soins palliatifs le jeudi 16 juin, 2022.

Esther a 94 ans. Elle est précédée par ses parents William et Josephine (Gauthier) Deschene, son époux John, sa fille, Diane, ses frères et sœurs Florence, Véronique, Horace, Daniel et Gérard.

Esther laisse dans le deuil son frère Gabriel (Gary), ainsi que ses enfants Gilles (Linda), Rhéal, Norman (Carol), Pauline Costante (Ed). Elle laisse également dans le deuil huit petits-enfants: Jay, André, Patrick, Éric, Jérémie, Chad (Guertin)—Jennifer et Dustin (Demille), ainsi que treize arrière-petits-enfants.

Notre mère était une femme fière—axée sur la famille. Sa créativité sans limite s’exprimait à travers sa couture, son tricot, sa pâtisserie et sa cuisine.

On se souviendra d’Esther pour ses rassemblements traditionnels à chaque vendredi de la semaine. Sa famille ainsi que certains amis dégustèrent son spaghetti avec boulettes de viande; personne ne manquait d’assister à ces merveilleuses réunions de famille. À sa manière, elle nous unissait.

Esther passa de nombreuses années à faire du bénévolat dans diverses églises et clubs sociaux à North Bay et à East Ferris. Après avoir quitté sa maison au lac Nosbonsing pour profiter de la vie urbaine en condo, son amour pour nous garder unis, persévérait. Essentiellement, elle avait créé une communauté.

Un grand merci va à sa nièce, Geri Grant, qui partageait les tâches de soins avec Pauline, la fille d’Esther. Geri est allé au-delà de l’appel lorsque ça venait à sa tante.

Nous témoignons notre gratitude au personnel de l’Empire Living Centre pour la qualité de vie fournis par leur institution. Nous tenons à remercier aussi le personnel de Paramed Services qui veillait à son confort quotidien.

Une sincère reconnaissance va également au Docteur James Vigars pour ses soins compatissants au fil des ans, en particulier durant ses derniers mois.

Enfin, nous tenons à remercier le personnel du Centre régional de santé de North Bay, en particulier les médecins d’urgence et l’unité de soins palliatifs.

Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Hillside le 8 juillet 2022, 362 chemin Airport, North Bay, ON de 14 à 16 heures. Suite à ce, il y aura un service célébration-de-vie. Au lieu de fleurs, nous demandons d’envisager un don à la mémoire d’Esther—ou un don pour l’Unité de soins palliatifs du Centre régional de santé de North Bay. Soit ça, ou au Réseau de soins palliatifs du Proche-Nord.

Notez bien que la treizième édition annuelle du lâcher de papillons vivants aura lieu le samedi 9 juillet 2022 au bord de l’eau.
