Florence Magalhães

November 27, 1932 – November 28, 2024

“Let all that you do be done in love.” Corinthians 16:14

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Germaine Marie Magalhães (née Bégin) on November 28, 2024, at the age of 92. Born November 27, 1932, to the late Édelbert and Oxilia Bégin (née Ferland), and raised in Hearst, Ontario, Florence settled in North Bay with her family in 1957. It is in North Bay where she met and married her handsome pilot husband, Herbert Magalhães. They were married for 62 years until his death earlier this year.

Florence was a hard worker and talented hairdresser, and worked for over 50 years with her sister Bella at Pinehill Beauty Salon. She was a loving mother, grandmother, spouse, and sister. Florence was a beautiful soul who cared for others more than herself, and truly did everything out of love.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Mona Magalhães and her husband René Filion; grand-daughter Maïa Magalhães-Filion; sisters Bella Rayner and Yvette Tauzin; sister-in-law Denise Bégin, and many nieces and nephews. Florence is preceded in death by brothers Fernand, Lionel (Ben), and Noel, sister Noella Soucy, brothers-in-law Maurice Tauzin and Jean-Guy Soucy, and sister-in-law Germaine Bégin.

A special thank you to Cathy Trussler, Sharon Spinks, and the staff at Waters Edge who cared for Florence in the most loving way during the last years of her life.

A funeral mass will be held at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on January 2, 2025, at 10am, followed by a reception. All who knew Florence and who would like to celebrate her life with us are welcome.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Brain Canada would be appreciated by the family.
