James (Jim) Sasyniuk Obituary

JAMES "JIM" DEMETRO SASYNIUK

January 16, 1943 – May 27, 2022

Jim passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Friday May 27, 2022.

Jim was the husband of Laurene (Rainville) Sasyniuk with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on May 11, 2022. He was the proud father of Shawn, grandchildren Charlee & Sasha Sasyniuk, Tina Foster mother of the children. Tina Long husband Kevin, grandchildren Kaydin & Grace Long.

Jim was the eldest of 3 children born to Metro & Cecile (Fournier) Sasyniuk, predeceased. Dear brother of Sandra Wellum, husband Harold and brother of Randall Sasyniuk, spouse Jan Couchie. He enjoyed family gatherings which included several nieces and nephews.

Jim loved music! He left North Bay to play music in the Rouyn-Noranda area as the drummer in a band. He went on to become the lead singer of his own band, James Ardeen And The Checkmates.

He believed his greatest achievement, after fatherhood, was to record music with Shawn and a number of his musical friends.

Jim was a fan of hockey from his early days of coaching the little ones who could only skate backwards during his time working in Falconbridge, to walking the arena floor during Shawn's goalie days. Always an avid supporter of hockey, he was known to arrive early to the game, all in the name of getting a good parking spot! Jim was a loyal Boston Bruins fan. Montreal fans best take a seat! He also worked part-time as goal judge and as security at the Gardens. He became known as Candy Man Jim for making sure anyone who needed a sugar rush was provided with a wide selection of sweets. Jim was also a proud and dedicated employee of the LCBO with a belief in providing good customer service and making connections with everyone he would meet.

He cherished his grandchildren and laughter was ever present during grampa time.

We are grateful for the assistance of all staff members from the Home and Community Care Support Services network. This granted Jim's wish to "not move" and to be home with his family until he chose to leave us.

Family and friends are welcome to attend at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd,  on Thursday June 2, 2022 from 10 am until the service at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory made to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation will be gratefully appreciated by the family.

For those planning on attending the service in person, the family kindly asks that you wear a mask as well as respect anyone willing to keep up the social distancing practices.
