Joseph Jean (John) Tessier

It is with great sadness that we announce that John Tessier passed away peacefully at Waters Edge Care Community on January 14, 2020.  Beloved husband of Sonja (nee Stefaniuk); devoted father to Francoise (Kevin Carty), Marc (Manon Dufour) and Paul (Sherri McFarlane); caring grandfather to Joshua, John, Hugo, Alexander, Simon, Michael and Zoë. Predeceased by his daughter, Marie-Jeanne.

John was born in Montreal on August 5, 1929 and eventually moved with his family to Northern Ontario.  He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science Degree (Physical Education) and later obtained his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.  He began his career as a teacher in Wawa, Ontario, later becoming a high school principal in Hearst.  He joined the Ministry of Education in 1975 and worked as a Supervisory Officer overseeing the Northeastern Ontario Region including Moosonee.  He was a true Northerner.

John was an avid tennis player and loyal Habs fan.  He shared a love of music and travel with his wife and family.  He volunteered for a number of charitable organizations including L’Arche, North Bay.   Above all, John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  His greatest joy was his family.  He will be dearly missed. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Waters Edge for their kind and compassionate care. 

There will be a visitation at Hillside Funeral Services from 7PM to 9PM on Thursday, January 16^th.  A funeral mass will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church at 11AM on January 17^th. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
