Joyce Fielder Obituary

Joyce E. Fielder

Joyce Fielder rejoined her heavenly family on the morning of August 19th, 2025 in her 79th year, after a short fight with cancer (for the third time), with her loving husband Stanley and daughter Carole by her side.

She was born in Toronto, ON to Ronald and Ruth Menzies, but she grew up in Haileybury surrounded by family and many friends.

She made a career in finance and worked at many of the banking institutions in Northern Ontario over many years, starting with the Bank of Commerce, then on to the Royal Bank, and then the Bank of Nova Scotia where she wore many hats and worked until her retirement.

The church was always a huge part of her life, so as a long-standing member, she also had a calling to be a lay preacher for many years of the United Church of Canada. As a lay preacher she helped many people (including many friends) say goodbye to their loved ones with dignity and peace while serving her calling.

She opened our house on the farm to people from different countries when they had no place to stay while here in Canada, including some who came to study at the Mining School, some of the Treorchy Male choir, and even many army members who ended up setting up camp in the fields at the farm (for whom she made coffee and took it out to them in the mornings along with the offer of breakfast to make sure that they had something warm to eat and drink). She even tried some of the army rations that they shared with us in return for hosting them (even though she wasn’t impressed with much of it). She also opened our house to many of our family and friends that needed a place to stay for a little while whenever they needed, and was a loving gracious host then as well.

She was always in her element when hosting a dinner party or get togethers, whether they were for family or friends. When it came to holidays like Halloween, she hosted parties for all the “country” kids who lived along the ‘West Road’ who weren’t always able to go in to town to go Trick or Treating, to make sure that they felt included. At Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, she was the gracious host who would invite people she knew who maybe didn’t have anyone to celebrate holidays with, to make sure that they wouldn’t be alone. She continued to host many dinner parties when she and Stan started being snowbirds and living their winters in Florida first, and then Arizona up until just before she passed away. She also volunteered whenever she could to help when there were different events whether at church, or in the community that she and Stan lived in. She also loved to go dancing with Stan whenever they were able to.

She loved different sorts of crafts, starting with making some of her own clothes as a teenager, then moving on to Halloween costumes for her daughter Carole, and then her grandsons Alan & Corey. She also loved doodling and being creative with many other types of crafts like plastic canvas, making Christmas brooms, and painting different things that she crafted.

She always loved to travel, and between car trips, train travel, flights, and cruises, she managed to end up travelling to all of the Canadian provinces including the Yukon, most of the states including Alaska, as well as Australia, & Mexico. She and Stan also took a cruise along the Panama Canal.

She loved being a snowbird (seeing as how she always hated the snow and the cold), and loved wintering in Florida where they owned their first house for many years, before she and Stan sold their house there. They then went to stay in Arizona for a couple of years with their camper before ending up buying a house in the community they were staying in there.

She is survived by and missed terribly by her loving husband Stanley Fielder, her daughter Carole Dumoulin (Andy), and her grandsons Alan (Rose) & Corey. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Clifford Fielder (Bonnie) as well as step-children Troy Fielder (Laura), Trevor Fielder (Tony), Bonnie Demoline, and Kathy Demoline, along with Stan’s many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their many nieces & nephews, as well as her many chosen family members.

Her heavenly family consists of her grandparents Queenie and Chesley Gray, her parents Ronald and Ruth Menzies, her previous husband Blake Lorenz, as well as her brothers Kenneth Menzies and Stuart Menzies along with many other family members and friends.

Cremation was arranged by Hillside Funeral Services in North Bay, and as per Joyce’s wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service held. She also requested that flowers not be sent, unless you would like them delivered elsewhere (sight unseen by the family). Donations to the United Church of Canada or charity of your choice, would however, be greatly appreciated by the family.
