June 28, 1955 – May 7, 2022. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Stacey in her 67th year. She is survived, and will be remembered with much love, by her devoted husband John Stacey, her loving children Melissa Stacey (Michael Dowdall) and Derek Stacey (Ashley Brown), her five grandchildren, as well as her caring parents Kenneth and Marie Thompson, and her brother Ken Thompson.
Marion grew up in Scarborough and remained in the Toronto area until she met John through mutual friends. Marion and John, at that time a young military pilot in training, quickly fell in love and began their life together at CFB Bagotville QC, where Melissa and Derek were both born. An adventure of moving from Air Force Base to Air Force Base ensued, and saw them move to Moose Jaw SK, North Bay ON, Baden-Soellingen Germany, and Cold Lake AB, before returning to stay in North Bay in 1995.
Marion was a deeply private individual, but those fortunate enough to have known her will remember her kind and hospitable disposition, her quick wit, and her talent and sense of adventure with the culinary arts. She cooked with the flair of a true chef and a meal at the Stacey household was guaranteed to impress. One of Marion’s favourite pastimes was sharing her delicious home-cooked meals with family, while telling jokes and stories at the dining room table. We will miss, but forever remember, those joyful times spent together.
Marion thrived in her role as a stay-at-home mom. She approached this role with devotion, compassion, and a genuine sense of fun. Through her own curiosity and love of learning, she instilled in her children the value of education and the pursuit of knowledge. She also contributed to the learning journey of multiple cohorts of students through her active school volunteerism. More recently, her patience, teaching skills and passion as a self-taught seamstress shone through when she began teaching her granddaughter to sew.
Family and friends whose lives Marion touched are invited to Hillside Funeral Home in North Bay on Saturday May 14 from 11AM to 1PM for a gathering in honour and memory of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association will be gratefully appreciated.
