Melissa Joy (Brophy) Aubut

It is with profound sadness that her family announces the passing of Melissa Joy Aubut (Brophy), who passed away at the age of 53 at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice in North Bay on June 30, 2026. Melissa’s time on earth was far too short. Our family's grief is tempered by our cherished memories of family gatherings and Melissa’s fantastic smile. 

Melissa was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, nurse, and friend whose compassion and kindness touched the lives of countless people. She dedicated her career to caring for others, first as a PSW and then as a Nurse in a long-term care facility at Cassellholme in North Bay, where she was deeply respected by her colleagues and cherished by the residents she served. Nursing was more than a profession to Melissa - it was her calling. She found genuine joy in helping others and made a lasting difference through her unwavering dedication, gentle spirit, and selfless care. Melissa’s friendly disposition always resulted in others being happy too!

Due to her health challenges with ALSP CSF1-R (adult-onset  leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia … a rare, genetic brain disease), Melissa spent the last four years as a resident at Cassellholme, being cared for by many loving and caring colleagues as well as her family and friends. 
Melissa will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Kevin Aubut; her parents, Mike and Joy Brophy; her sisters, Tiana Cote (John Wilson) and Kristy Brophy (Graham Henderson); her nieces, Rylee Cote (Will) and Liliana Henderson; and her nephews, Nicholas Cote and Saul Henderson, step-daughter Terah and step-grand daughter Diamond, who brought great joy and love into Melissa’s life as she cherished her role as Aunt Melissa. She delighted in supporting her nieces and nephews in their athletic and creative pursuits, never happier than when beaming with pride at school performances, sports tournaments, or simply watching them grow.

Melissa also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives were enriched by her warmth, generosity, and caring heart.

Melissa enjoyed travel with her husband, Kevin, and with others in her family. She traveled Canada from coast to coast as well as to Australia, New Zealand, eastern Europe and the US. And Melissa loved to swim. She was a member of the Y Titans Swim Team and later coached for the team. Every day she spent in a pool or on Kervins’ Beach was wonderful to Melissa. As a certified scuba diver, she enjoyed being under the water too.

Melissa’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and service. She will be deeply missed and remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family wishes to acknowledge the help of Dan Cote, Joanne Rivard and Cindy Fleguel, as well as the wonderful staffs at Cassellholme and Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

We also wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their love, support, and prayers during this time. A very special thank you to the amazing staff at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice for their care, guidance, and compassion for Melissa and her family.

Visitation will be held on July 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and July 11th from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Funeral Services, located at 362 Airport Road, North Bay.

Donations can be made in memory of Melissa to Nipissing Serenity Hospice or Cassellholme Charitable Foundation.

The family thanks you for keeping Melissa in your hearts.  The last words Melissa heard were ‘I love you’ from her family as she passed.
