Mike Freeston
April 18, 1952 – April 5, 2026
Mike Freeston passed away on April 5, 2026, leaving behind his loving wife, Leslie Vanderburg, his daughters, Jamie-Lee and Madison Freeston, and his sons, Andy, Ryan, and Jesse Freeston.
The last seven years of Mike’s life were challenging. After a spinal cord injury, he was confined to a wheelchair, which made everyday life more difficult. At first, he did his best to maintain normalcy, continuing his Friday night outings, social events, and gatherings with friends. He faced each day with determination, trying to stay involved and connected.
As time went on, however, mobility declined, and health complications increased. Despite the pain and difficulty, Mike’s spirit remained unbroken. He faced life’s challenges with a smile and laugh, always finding humor even in hard times, and rarely letting anger or frustration take hold.
Mike would not want you to mourn him. He lived a full, rich life, experiencing more than many could imagine. He cherished friendships, celebrated memories, and shared laughter generously.
So, the next time you raise a glass, make a toast—to good friends, to cherished memories, and of course, to the Chicago Blackhawks and San Francisco 49ers.
"Never lose hope you never know what tomorrow may bring."
The family will be hosting an Open House at the Freeston residence in North Bay on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, we kindly ask that no flowers be brought. Your presence and support in celebrating his life are deeply appreciated.
