Roger Bertrand Obituary

 

Roger passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on July 9, 2024 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

His loving wife of 42 years, Marlene (Cull) predeceased him on December 15, 2004. He will be sadly missed by his children, Brian (Judy), Barry (Lydia), Lynda (Steve), and Joe (Lori). Grandfather to Lauren, Scott, Chiara (Dan), Brenden, Bradley as well as his great grandchildren Victoria and Rosalyn. Roger will also be missed by his loving and caring partner Rachel Labelle of 20 years, as well as her children, Jocelyne, Vicky (Doug), Sue, Dennis (Alana).

Roger was born on July 10, 1935, to Marguerite (nee Pednault) and Euclide Bertrand in Noelville, Ontario. Roger is survived by his sister Anne (August) Gauthier of Gatineau, PQ. His only brother Leonard (Colombe) Bertrand of Welland predeceased him.

Roger was a gifted self-taught musician who played many instruments. His favorite was the piano, which brought joy to many people. Roger also loved the outdoors with time spent at his camper, fishing and hunting. Roger began his work career at Abitibi Pulp and Paper Mill in Sturgeon Falls eventually working as a Court Officer in the Federal Division, North Bay.

He also enjoyed getting together with numerous friends and especially loved Christmases with family.

A celebration of life will be held at Hillside Funeral Services located at 362 Airport Road, North Bay, on July 16, 2024, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. followed by refreshments. A second celebration of life is also planned in a more informal atmosphere at the O.N.R. Apartment Building (8 th Floor Common Room) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on July 20, 2024. Friends are invited to drop in.

Rogers family would like to extend our deep gratitude to all his caregivers, the staff of Unit Level 3-D at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, as well as Blair Sneddon his Nurse Practitioner. A special thanks to Dr. Renee Gauthier who was so kind in helping him on his journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name would be greatly appreciated to the North Bay Regional Health Centre or the North Bay Choral Society.
