Stephen Harvey Obituary

Stephen John Harvey

December 30, 1952 – February 16, 2023

Steve Harvey, fondly known as the “Elder” to his siblings, has sadly passed away from complications following heart surgery. He was surrounded by the immense love of his family. Steve was the oldest child of Norleen Harvey (nee Brouse) and John Harvey (both pre-deceased).

Steve leaves behind his daughter Hayden Harvey (Colin McCue) and his son Spencer (Naomi Plourde), as well as the mother of his children, Darlene Mace, and his siblings Janet Harvey (Chris Demarco), Mary Ann Harvey (Randy Haskins), Pete Harvey (Nancy Duchesne), and James Harvey (Marie-Eve Michaud). Steve was a big presence in the lives of his nieces and nephews, Brittany Beauchamp (Chris Hudson), Jessica Farmer (Jon Farmer), Mary Ann Perron (Logan Haymond), Jules Perron, Adam Perron (France Robichaud), Neil Harvey, and Jacob Harvey. He also leaves behind a collection of amazing friends that he met along his journeys.

Steve grew up in North Bay, Ontario and lived an adventurous life, hopping a train from North Bay to the wild west when he was 18 years young. Steve made his home on the beautiful island of Gabriola, British Columbia where he built his very first log home. His love for the west was shared with his Ontario family who had the privilege of visiting often. Steve loved old cars and motorcycles. He had many adventures involving both. He loved music and was talented playing the banjo, harmonica and piano. He was an exemplary log house builder and carpenter. Many homes on Gabriola Island were built by Steve or had his creative touch added to their homes. Steve gave to his community by being a volunteer fire fighter from 1985 to 1994.

Steve lived his life his own way, and we admire him for that, and all will miss him dearly.  The hardest thing is to say good-bye.  Steve would say he had a “beautiful” life. Many thanks to his Island Doctor Tracey Thorne, and the many nurses and doctors who provided superb care for him at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.

There will be a celebration of his life to be held at the Surf Lodge on Gabriola Island from 4:30 to 7:30 on Saturday, March 25.

In memory of Steve, donations can be made to the Gabriola Fire Department by e-transfer to gabfire@shaw.ca or mailed/in person to: Albert Reed Memorial Hall #1 PO Box 89 730 Church St. Gabriola Island B.C. V0R 1X0.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
