Steven James (Jim) Stead Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Steven James (Jim) Stead, who left us too soon on July 11, 2025 at his residence in North Bay, Ontario, at the age of 73.

Born on October 24, 1952, in London, Ontario, Jim was the beloved son of the late Maybelle Perlin. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his brother Bob Stead (Elaine Sansom), whom he visited often in London.  He was a special uncle to Craig, Colette, Shawnee, Colin (Vanessa) and great uncle to Mike, Justin (Victoria), Chad (Kenny), Blaine, Tate (Chiara), Ryder, Raiden, and Christian.

Jim was an easy going guy who made lasting friendships over the decades, some from his time at Canada Post, Pro North Transportation and Fabrene, others through a shared passion for music and sports. He had a quiet but profound appreciation for trusted friends who shared his joy in life’s simple but best offerings. You know who you are.

He was adored for his soft and kind demeanor and was admired for his musical gifts.  He enjoyed many jam sessions, especially by the fire at his property in Magnetawan, playing many instruments including the guitar, banjo, piano, and harmonica. He inspired many to learn an instrument, even helping some to record their music. He was a wizard with all kinds of gadgets and technology, musical and beyond.

Jim loved animals and they loved him right back – all thanks to his gentle care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Bay and District Humane Society.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum
