Valerie Alldred Obituary

Valerie Elizabeth Alldred

July 4, 1953 – March 20, 2026

Valerie Alldred passed away unexpectedly, with her family by her side, on March 20, 2026, at the age of 72 years, leaving a space that can never be filled and a legacy of love that will never fade.

Val will be deeply missed and always cherished by her husband of 49 years, Dr. John Byron Alldred, her children, Jason (Shannon), David, and Tracy (Caleb), and her grandchildren, Ryder, Avery, Skye, Olivia and Clara. She is predeceased by her mother, Shirley Jones and her beloved brothers, Glen and Karl Jones. She now joins her adored Aunt Daisy and uncles Paul, Dave, and Ed Richards, and so many others who went before her.

Born in Newfoundland, Val was immensely proud of her Newfoundland heritage and always felt connected to her beautiful home province. She and Byron moved from Toronto to North Bay in 1978 where they raised their three children. Val was an amazing wife, a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, and a loyal friend. She loved to garden and decorate her home, sharing her gift for creating warm, joyful spaces where family and friends felt deeply connected and cared for. We will forever remember her signature oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, delicious turkey soup, magical Christmas decorating and appreciation of beauty in flowers. Sociable by nature, Val could make a new friend anywhere she went. She carried her family and friends in her thoughts always, and we could not have had a fiercer advocate by our sides. When not caring for others and her treasured cat Shadow, she could often be found immersed in a nonfiction history book.

Val’s grandchildren were one of her greatest joys and she loved them with her whole heart. She was endlessly proud, always cheering them on in school and sports.  She would never turn down a chance to play a board game or read a book with them, savoring those quiet, special moments just as much as the big ones. It is no surprise that she was the best grandmother; she modelled what it means to be a mother in every sense: love without limits, unwavering support and patience, and creating endless moments of joy. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the values she instilled, and the love that continues to ripple outward from her life.

Val, Mom, Nana - you will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.
