William (Bill) Ashley Alec Schorse

On April 6th 2024 we lost a loving husband to Winona (Nona) of 63years, father to Peter (Tammy) and Timothy (Lorna), brother to Alice Millar-Sauder, uncle to Ian and Jennifer and 4 grandchildren Tamara, David, Matthew and Nicholas (Sarah) and two great granddaughters Apollonia and Rebekah, and nephew Ian Millar  and several cousins.  Bill had great knowledge in photography, building and repairing canoes and was a great antique car enthusiast.

Born in Mattawa in February 1939 to Alec and Myrtle (Smith) Schorse. Married Winona (Nona) Renault on May 7th  1960.

Worked at T.M. Palmer Jewelers, Singer Sewing Machine, then worked at CKGN TV that became CFCH then CKNY TV as head of the photography department in the mid 60's until late 70's.

Worked the night shift at the Crisis centre for a few years while starting the canoe company

Started North Bay Canoe company in 1979. Repaired and built the traditional cedar canvas canoes and sold supplies for the do-it-yourself people. Sold the company is 2004.

After retirement Bill enjoyed his antique cars and going to car shows and cruise nights. Bill had a lot of knowledge on almost everything and loved to talk. He enjoyed talking to the young scouts and ventures who came to the shop to learn about the canoes and repaired their own.

He could fix almost anything and enjoyed learning different things. Bill’s health started failing in late 2022. Bill was 85 years old.

Thanks to all the doctors and nurses on the C3 floor at the North Bay Regional Health Care Centre. They were wonderful and caring.

Donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre in Bill’s name would be much appreciated by his family.

Family will receive visitors at Hillside Funeral Service on Sunday April 28th from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm.
